Solution mining

  • 42 caverns of 30m radius to be initiated and replaced annually

Overview of key third party infrastructure investments tailored for the projects needs

Power lines

  • The Dallol Project will require a 35MW electricity power supply
  • Connection to the national grid has been chosen as best option
  • A 180km and 230 kV power transmission line, funded by the African Development Bank, is completed by Ethiopian Electric Power (“EEP”) to connect the Dallol Project to the existing grid at Mekele, with a local sub-station at Dallol with last finishing works to be done
  • Ethiopia power generation is mainly provided by clean hydro power, supplemented by wind
  • The construction of the transmission line and sub station for US $ 56M is funded by AfDB

Lowland roads

  • Ethiopian government has constructed 486km lowland export road to allow for potash trucking from Dallol to Port de Tadjoura
  • The export lowland road is more than 80% completed.

Port

  • Final product to be exported from the newly built port of Tadjoura in neighboring Djibouti
  • The 40 hectare port which is dedicated to potash exports, was inaugurated in 2017
  • Total investment to build the port amounted to $78 M by Djibouti government
  • Storage terminal to be built for potash
  • Port authority to provide shiploader and a conveyor along with major utilities to the site boundary, including electric power, potable water and wastewater facilities
